1st TECHNIQUE: writing a good essay

STARTING UP YOUR ESSAY:

i had actually watched over an interview with a famous Hollywood film director who once said that he wanted to make a film that began with an earthquake and worked up to a climax.

your essay should do the same---it should begin with an earthquake! it's first line must hit hard!

you must open with zest and snap and zip!

your sentence must have the fierceness of a flash of lightning, the surprise value of blitzkrieg...it must amaze, astound, awake its reader!

it must have force!

CLOSING DOWN YOUR ESSAY:

in closing the essay, aim for an ending which rounds off the essay...do not leave the reader in the middle of an idea..sum up your work by a neat, bright ending...

the best way to of ending up your essay is to end it with a line that reminds the reader of opening..."hack back" to the opening...

if you can sum up with a brilliant wisecrack, then use your very best sentence as your showplace for your showpiece...

a final wisecrack----a "sting in the tail" may be a perfect ending!

VERY IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER IN WRITING YOUR ESSAY:

1. keep words short

2. keep sentences short

3. keep paragraphs short

4. defeat your problems:

a. if you can't spell it, don't write it

b. if you can't punctuate it, don't write it

at all times it is a good plan for inexperienced writers to keep their sentences short. i advise you, never carry a sentence beyond its natural stopping place. if you can end a sentence at any point, do...

dont ramble on and on, like gossip....

concise, brief writing give your work bite, punch, snap, fire, directness, force, zip, zest and life!
